A Kamaka Ukulele is a must have in any ukulele collector's collection. The sound of a Kamaka ukulele is unique and clean. As well as the craftsmanship which can be described with one word: impeccable.
The Kamaka Ukulele company has had a long history that spans over three generations. The original founder Samuel Kaialiilii Kamaka began making koa ukuleles in 1916. He started making them from the basement of his home. Through out the years his sons and grandsons have ran the business. The current owners are Casey Kamaka, Chris Kamaka, and Fred Kamaka Jr.
As the Kamaka legacy moves forward, it is important to reflect on what has made this company endure. One of the guiding philosophies at Kamaka has always been the blunt, but sensible advice handed down from Sam Kamaka to the rest of the family:
"If you make instruments and use the family name, don't make junk."
